Mesh Repair

FarField's FastRBF Toolboxes can be used to fit surfaces to incomplete or partial mesh data, either to automatically repair holes or guarantee a water-tight surface. When the mesh is described implicitly by a mathematical function, it can be re-sampled at the desired resolution without introducing artifacts due to the finite resolution of the base mesh. FastRBF's special iso-surfacer optimises the number and shape of facets while incorporating a low pass anti-aliasing filter to avoid sub-sampling artifacts.

An RBF mathematical model:

  • smoothly fills holes (interpolates)
  • smoothly extends surfaces where there is no data (extrapolates)
  • copes with large and irregular holes (non-uniformly sampled data)
  • requires only an accuracy parameter to be specified

Examples

Interpolation & extrapolation
Raw laser scan data
